My name is Jaden La Rocque (b. 2000) and I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. From there, I pursued my passion for photography at Bard College in New York where I achieved my Bachelor's in Fine Arts in 2023.
My main interests in my work are photographing places that hold their own quirks and personalities, shaping the environment they stand in as a sort of being within themselves. My grandfather, who was a deeply grounded empath, pushed me to think about the memories lost within an old deconstructed house, to imagine the movement and blinking of an old relative stuck in a frame, and to consider the natural world as a portal for humans to define themselves, for it is a blank canvas.
I have worked in all formats of photography, but analog has always been my most beloved, like my own creation from the unraveling, to the self-development, and then to the darkroom for printing. The format adds elements of mystery, an urge for perfection, and a deeper internalization of what to photograph and why.
From teaching underclassmen in the darkroom to assisting painters in their studios, the idea of an art community and helping one another is the number one value I hold dear. Through this, I believe the horizon for art is ever-expanding.
